Mezzo-soprano

Catherine Cook

Mezzo-soprano Catherine Cook has excelled in a wide range of roles with leading opera companies, including the Metropolitan Opera, San Francisco Opera, Lyric Opera of Chicago, LA Opera and Houston Grand Opera. The Cincinnati Post wrote that she “recalled the great mezzo Marilyn Horne: her luxurious voice showed remarkable flexibility. Her exciting characterizations garner acclaim as well.” Cook has performed more than 45 roles with San Francisco Opera. She is a Professor of Voice at the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where she holds the Frederica von Stade Distinguished Chair in Voice. This performance marks her tenth anniversary with Music of Remembrance: she premiered the role of Gertrude Stein in our 2015 production of Tom Cipullo’s After Life and 2019 production of The Parting. In 2016 she starred in MOR’s world premiere production of Jake Heggie’s Out of Darkness: Two Remain.
