The Boys of Terezin streaming Nov. 8-14

Nov 8, 2022 - Nov 14, 2022

People around the world remember the pogrom of November 9, 1938 as Kristallnacht, the “Night of Broken Glass.” That night's organized anti-Jewish assault was a turning point in the Third Reich's escalating violence that culminated in the Holocaust.

To mark the anniversary of Kristallnacht, we want to share our film The Boys of Terezín for free online viewing from Tuesday, November 8 through Monday, November 14. For almost two years between 1942 and 1944, a group of about a hundred teenage boys in the Terezín concentration camp created a clandestine magazine, filling its pages with their secret poetry, essays and illustrations. Their writings reveal inspirational courage, passionate idealism, and wisdom far beyond the years of their young authors. The words tell of their life in the camp, and of the dreams for a better world that that only a few of them would live to see. The Boys of Terezín, a deeply touching documentary by award-winning filmmaker John Sharify, relates the story of these courageous boys and their magazine, and how it inspired American composer Lori Laitman to create the stirring oratorio Vedem based on the boys’ story and their own words.
