Testimonies for Tomorrow: MOR Commissions
In our eighteenth season, Music of Remembrance continues to enjoy an international reputation for commissioning and programming contemporary American music based on Holocaust themes. Through significant new Holocaust-inspired works by major living composers, MOR’s commissioning program builds a living bridge between Holocaust musicians and a new generation of artists and audiences.
To date, MOR has commissioned and premiered eighteen works from American composers Tom Cipullo, Jake Heggie, Pat Hon, Lori Laitman, Thomas Pasatieri, Paul Schoenfield, Gerard Schwarz, Alicia Svigals and David Stock, plus two works by Israeli composers Aharon Harlap and Betty Olivero. MOR has also commissioned and premiered three dances from American choreographer Donald Byrd, and one dance from choreographer Pat Hon. In November 2015, MOR will present the world premiere of a new dance commission, La Revue de Cuisine, choreographed by Olivier Wevers. In May 2016, MOR will present the world premiere of a new full-length opera by Jake Heggie and Gene Scheer, Out of Darkness.
