The Boys of Terezín
John Sharify, Producer & Writer
Tim Griffis, Cinematographer
For almost two years between 1942 and 1944, a group of about a hundred teenage boys in the Terezín concentration camp created a clandestine magazine, filling its pages with their secret poetry, essays and illustrations. Their writings tell of their life in the camp, and of the dreams for a better world that that only a few of them would live to see. The Boys of Terezín, a deeply touching documentary by award-winning filmmaker John Sharify, relates the story of these courageous boys and their magazine, and how it inspired American composer Lori Laitman to create the stirring oratorio Vedem based on the boys’ story and their own words.
